Chinese Democracy Leak 2008 Reviewed

June 21st, 2008 | by Walter |

Ok.  It’s been a little while since something leaked from the upcomming Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy album that has been coming out for the past 14 years.

I am a hardcore GnR fan but I will remain as unbiased as possible.

I downloaded the leak (I know where to find these things) and couldn’t wait to start playing it.

I went in order:

  1. Better - Great version as have all of them been.
  2. Chinese Democracy - Title track and in my opinion, hits hard and sounds great.
  3. IRS - Good, hard rocking song… but the lyrics lack a bit in my opinion.
  4. Madagascar - Excellent, keep ‘em coming.
  5. Riyadh & The Bedouins - This is where the album takes a dip for the worst; What can I say… it’s very cheesy.  Poisonesque, if you will.
  6. This I Love - Terrible.  Leave it off of the album.
  7. If The World (Would End Today) - Another horrible song, leave it where it’s been laying.
  8. The Blues - The album picks back up here; Great Song, belongs on the record.
  9. TWAT - Another goodie!

Ok, why was this leaked?  Here’s my opinion on that.  Axl and company leaked this to the internet for one: to get the reaction of hard-core fans like myself and two: to have it reviewed by such publications as Rolling Stone (which they did).

Reaction to this leak is not too good, especially for an album 14 years in the making.  This isn’t a masterpiece and isn’t even close to a good GnR release in my view.

Hopefully this was a test to see what the ACTUAL tracks on the album will be… please, Axl, leave 5, 6 and 7 off of this record.

BTW, go get it and listen for yourself if you have the means to do so.  I won’t tell you :)
